The results of the 21st edition of
the quarterly MADA/OFI Trends
Survey showed the July 2009 Overall
Survey Index was 48. 3, according to
Michael A. Dunlap & Associates.
The survey measures the business activity of the office furniture
industry and its suppliers. The January 2009 and April 2009 Overall
Survey Index values were 46. 17 and
41. 45, respectively. The highest recorded index was 59. 72 in July 2005.
The average has been 54. 34 since
the survey started in August 2004.
Gross shipments, order backlog,
employment levels, hours worked,
capital expenditures, tooling expenditures and personal outlook
improved significantly compared
with April 2009, but remained
below 50.
The Personal Outlook Index improved to 45. 85 after falling to 37.04
in January and 41. 38 in April 2009.

Nordfab Ducting opens
warehouse in Canada
Ethan Allen will convert its U.S. case
goods manufacturing into a custom business, according to a news report. The conversion will be carried out within a year.
The company’s chairman, president and CEO, Farooq Kathwari, said
the change would enable the company to pursue its objective of growing
the U.S. manufacturing base.

Nordfab Ducting’s first warehouse in
Canada, with light fabrication capabilities, has opened in Delhi, Ontario.

Tom Ballus, Dantherm Filtration’s
North American president, said the
warehouse will reduce delivery time for
Canadian customers by two to three
days.
The warehouse will store more than
10,000 pieces of standard clamp-to-gether ducting — such as straight pipes
and elbows.
